Staten Island’s Garibaldi-Meucci Museum has proposed the installation of a new 34-foot monument on the western edge of the property. Titled “Venezia New York,” the new sculpture would rise from a 20-foot by 20-foot concrete base accompanied by a new concrete walkway, a dedicated plaque, and additional benches in the museum’s front lawn.

Constructed in the 1840s, the museum is the former home of Italian inventor Antonio Meucci and Italian revolutionary leader Giuseppe Garibaldi. Today, the museum is owned and operated by the Order Sons of Italy in America with a focused collection of Italian-American art, educational programs, and cultural events.
