Another day, another iconic Brooklyn pizza joint has announced it’s shutting its doors for good. Sal’s Pizza Store, a mainstay in Carroll Gardens for more than 50 years, will be closing on Sunday. According to a note on the restaurant’s door, the owners say they are “deeply saddened to inform all our loyal customers” that it was closing and thanked the neighborhood for its support after all of these years.
Sal’s, and its restaurant next door Mama Maria’s, is run by John Esposito, whose parents Sal and Maria owned the restaurant since 1970. In 2012, Mama Maria’s was actually featured on Gordon Ramsey’s old show “Kitchen Nightmares,” which gave the restaurant a makeover.
