This Summer, holidays in Sicily could be just a tad easier on the wallet than we expect. The region’s council is offering discounts and offers to attract more tourists to the island, after two months of lockdown and weeks of travel limitations have profoundly affected tourism.
Negative repercussions on tourism, in fact, are recorded all over the country: in March, profits decreased of 95%, with experts predicting a total loss for the year 2020 of around 22 billion USD. This is truly dramatic for a country where the tourist industry has been dubbed il petrolio d’Italia, Italy’s own oil, as written by Marzio Bartoloni of Il Sole 24 Ore.
