While the coronavirus pandemic has devastated all corners of the world, it has hit Italy particularly hard. On March 31, the country announced it had nearly 106,000 confirmed cases of the virus and 12,428 deaths—the highest in the world.
Despite the grim statistics, Italians have managed to keep a bit of la dolce vita through it all. We've seen countless stories of neighbors helping each other, lighthearted moments of musicians performing out their windows to lift people's spirits, and videos of dozens of people standing on their balconies each night, clapping and cheering for health care workers.
