There is all the modernity of South Tyrol, an autonomous province in northern Italy that borders Austria, in one dirndl. Rightly so, you’re probably wondering who to pronounce it - don’t even bother! - and what it is.

The latter is easier to answer: it’s the costume worn by every woman in the province of Bolzano (as well as in Austria and Germany) for special occasions. Comprising a blouse, skirt, and apron, a dirndl can be long or short, austere or sexy, hand-finished, traditional, and always up-to-date.
