Venice is famous for the canals and romantic gondola rides but it is also very expensive. A recent trip found me wanting the Venice experience but not the price tag. It’s a quick trip to Venice from Rome by train and it takes just about two hours and costs about $35 and it’s money well spent.
I opted for Mestre, which is near Venice and a common pick for price-conscious travelers. It is simple to get to Venice from there and it is a lovely spot situated on the mainland and considered a suburb of Venice, which is actually a grouping of 100 small islands in the Venetian Lagoon.
