As the country remains disgusted and transfixed by another sporting-world child sexual abuse case, HBO released its trailer for Paterno. The film, which debuts this spring, stars the legendary Al Pacino as winningest coach in college football history Joe Paterno, who tumbled abruptly from grace amid evidence that he was aware that his assistant coach Jerry Sandusky was a serial child molestor.
Judging by the brief teaser, Pacino is perfectly cast as Paterno, a fellow Italian-American native New Yorker. If he can avoid indulging some of his more over-the-top Pacino-isms, the performance could be a great one. That's judging by some incredibly effective conflicted and guilty emoting he does towards the end of the trailer, when a voice asks “Dad, did you know about Jerry?"
