Since 2003, Italian citizens and dual citizens have been able to vote abroad for Italian elections. A political group, Free Flights to Italy, which is not affiliated with any Italian parties, demands that all Italians living abroad, especially in North and Central America, get the same Italian dual citizenship benefits as citizens living outside of the Italian peninsula, for example in Sardinia.
This legislative proposal, described in a LinkedIn Pulse post by Giuseppe Macario, college professor and entrepreneur, aims at strengthening cooperation between Italy and people living in the US and Canada, who have Italian ancestors and hold Italian citizenship by jure sanguinis.
