Alfonso Sarno, father of Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, has died. He was 84. The mayor’s City Hall office announced the death Thursday morning. “Alfonso ‘Al the Barber’ Sarno passed away peacefully earlier this morning after waging a courageous battle against prostate cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family,” the statement read. Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date and time.
Sarno dedicated his successful 2019 reelection campaign to his then-ailing father. “This is important in terms of my parents coming from another country to make a life here ... Whether people disagree with me on things or not, most everyone knows I live this job, I love this job, 24/7,” Sarno said at the time.
