Virginia Errigo began her passion for being in the bakery business working at Detroit’s Roma Bakery, founded by her father, Hugo Imperi. It was there that she created the bakery's famed pepperoni rolls, said her son, John Errigo. "When she was a little girl, she played with the dough and she used to put pepperoni in it and that's how it started," he said.
Errigo, 89, of Dearborn died on Friday. She and her late husband, John Errigo, went on to found Capri Italian Bakery, a fixture in Dearborn for decades. A post on the Capri Italian Bakery Facebook page announced the bakery will be closed Tuesday-Wednesday to honor her.
