Celebrating Galileo

On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of Galileo's Letter to Christina of Lorraine, Grand Duchess of Tuscany, Loyola University Chicago, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Italy in Chicago, the Italian Cultural Institute and ItalCultura, will present a series of events:

November 4th at 7:30 pm - Loyola University Orchestra Concert - Symphony 41 "Jupiter" (Mozart) - Sun Music IV (Peter Sculthorpe, US premiere) - Movements selected from The Planets Suite (Holst) and selections from Star Wars (John Williams) - Mundelein Center Auditorium

November 13th at 8pm - Concert by Mr. Joel Spears and Chamber Choir of Loyola. Mr. Spears will perform lute music composed by both Galileo's father, Vincenzo, and brother, Michelangelo, as well as by Galileo Galilei himself. The Chamber Choir will perform Vincenzo's setting of the Psalm, "In exitu Israel", madrigals by Monteverdi, works by Caccini, and other contemporary Italian compositions. Skowronski Music Hall
