City of Rochester recognizes Little Italy Historic District

It’s been more than a century and one community in Rochester has officially gotten the recognition it has been pushing for. On Sunday, the city of Rochester recognized the Little Italy Historic District. The Lyell Avenue area has been home to many Italian immigrants, families, and businesses.

The Little Italy Association says it hopes this will help the area grow. “It is a true rebirth of this neighborhood and it needs it. It’s a long time that this neighborhood’s been neglected and we’re giving it the attention it deserves,” said Silvano Orsi, President of the Little Italy Association of Rochester. “After 150 years of waiting for an official Little Italy in Rochester; it’s here now.”
