A new digital restoration of the 1977 Italian horror film “Suspiria” is being shown at the Avon Theatre. The Dario Argento movie, which is currently being remade by “Call Me By Your Name” director Luca Guadagnino, is part of the Stamford theater’s regular “Cult Classics” series. The eerie tale of witchcraft in a German ballet academy stars Jessica Harper, Alida Valli and Joan Bennett (fresh from her stint on the daytime TV horror soap opera “Dark Shadows”).

The influence of the highly stylized look of the film can be seen in “Black Swan,” and some of Brian DePalma’s work. Harper was the star of the 1974 DePalma film “Phantom of the Paradise.” Tilda Swinton and Dakota Johnson are starring in the remake which is set for release later this year.
