Roughly 90% of Italians go online every day, with nearly half spending at least four hours connected. Young adults and adults are the most active users, while children and seniors show the lowest engagement. These findings come from a recent report on digital and media literacy in Italy, broken down into four main areas.
The first section focuses on tech access and online behavior. Most Italians own smartphones (91%), while two-thirds also use laptops and smart TVs. Game consoles and virtual assistants are more common among younger generations. Online activity varies by age: adults and seniors primarily use the internet to get news and information, older kids chat with friends, and audiovisual content is widely consumed across all ages. Around 80% of Italians still use media during meals—mostly watching TV—while younger people (ages 6–34) often scroll social media or watch videos.
