Several times since I began working at Borough Hall, my Mom has welled up with emotion, telling me how proud my grandfather would have been to see me become the Borough President. She was speaking of her Dad, Edward Galbo, who left Sicily in 1902 for the promise of a better life in a new land.

When he arrived, he did what so many other immigrants did – he got a job and started a family. And though he wasn't aware of it, in doing so he and his wife were embodying the American Dream.
