When Joe D'Alessandro was appointed state attorney for the 20th Judicial Circuit, the largest in Florida, at 30, he was the youngest person ever to hold that position. After his appointment in 1969, D'Alessandro was elected to that office for eight consecutive terms, becoming one of the best-known attorneys in Southwest Florida.
Born and raised in Fort Myers, he graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in journalism in 1961 and went on to get a law degree from Stetson College of Law in 1964.
