Review: Alla Vita wants to reboot the staid Italian American joint

Step through the doors of Alla Vita, and the whole room feels like it could float in the breeze. The restaurant’s titanic windows flood the space with light, while delicate pieces of linen run in waves across the ceiling, flapping back and forth. A large wooden pergola runs along one side, with plants winding up and around, like you’re strolling through a well-manicured outdoor patio.

Even if you’ve never been, the room conjures images of dining al fresco in Italy, perhaps under the Tuscan sun. The menu certainly has some dishes that you’d find at restaurants while actually gazing at the Mediterranean and valiantly trying to remember the little Italian you know, including whole sea bream ($39) and fritto misto ($19).
