Pizza offerings in South Florida are as deep and delectable as they have ever been, but the region — and state — came up thin in a recent ranking of the nation's best pies. Only two pizza restaurants that began in Florida made the annual 101 Best Pizzas in America list compiled by the Daily Meal website: Scuola Vecchia Pizza e Vino in Delray Beach (No. 82) and Harry's Pizzeria in Miami (No. 93).

South Florida's representation on the list doubles if you count two Miami-Dade expansion outposts of highly ranked New York pizza restaurants. The original Brooklyn home of Paulie Gee's (recently opened at 8001 Biscayne Blvd., Miami) came in at No. 21, and Lucali (1930 Bay Road, Miami Beach) had its Brooklyn birthplace land at No. 9.
