Drive by Jimmy’s Food Store any morning the week before a big holiday and you’ll likely see a line of thirty or so customers eagerly waiting for the shop to open. Once inside, most will go straight for the signature items—the Italian sausage, meatballs, and pastas sauces crafted from family recipes, the buttery garlic bread, the big trays of meat or veggie lasagna.
“We probably sell about 2,000 lasagnas in December,” laughs Michael DiCarlo, who, along with his brother Paul DiCarlo, co-owns the store. “We can’t keep these things in stock, and most of the shelves are half-empty by Christmas. But these are good problems to have.”
