The morning-line favorite for opening week of The Philadelphia Orchestra at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center is tonight's Saratoga Springs debut of Boston Pops Conductor Keith Lockhart, who will helm a program that celebrates the 150th anniversary of Saratoga Race Course.
In the spirit of his pops credentials, Lockhart's program will include a paddock full of audience-favorite works often associated with equestrian motifs — sev eral pieces from Aaron Copland's "Rodeo" dance suite; Rossini's "William Tell Overture" (also popularly known as the "Lone Ranger" theme); film score selections from "The Horse," "Seabiscuit" and "War Horse"; Suppe's "Light Cavalry Overture"; two Morton Gould compositions, "Flourishes and Gallop" and, most fittingly, "Saratoga Quickstep."
