The Italian American Benevolent Association celebrated its 20th Anniversary with a June 7 dinner dance attended by more than 100 club members and families at the Greenview Inn at Eastlyn Golf Course. Inspired by its rich heritage in America, the IABA was founded to promote solidarity and friendship among all people, to promote the celebration of the Italian Experience in America, and to sponsor, direct and participate in charitable, educational, religious, social and athletic activities which further the exemplary contribution of the Italian Experience in America. 

It was back in 2000 that Rudolph “Skip” Luisi and Peter Capizola, local businessmen active in the community, founded the organization. “They wanted to start a Italian American Club that just wasn’t another social club, but one that could make a difference in the lives of Italian Americans in need,” said Robert DeSanto, the club’s adviser/attorney. “Since then, the club has have contributed more than $400,000 in scholarships to local high school recipients and aid to Italian American individuals or families in need.”

Since its founding the club has had three presidents, “Mr. Luisi, Mr. Capizola and Ray Tamburro,” said DeSanto. “At this time, we have more than 125 members and meet monthly at local restaurants on a rotating basis.” The current officers include Mr. Capizola, President; Rick Collini, Vice President; Dennis Ingraldi, Secretary; Bob Fischer, Financial Secretary; Cosmo Giovinazzi IV, Treasurer. Trustees included Mr. Luisi, Alan Bernardini, Carlo Melini, Pete Cifaloglio, Joe Capizola and Joe Pustizzi.
