Since 1989, the achievements and contributions of Italian immigrants and their descendants living in the United States have been celebrated each October and, at a recent borough council meeting, Mayor Matt Anesh proclaimed October as Italian Heritage Month in South Plainfield.
"Italian and Italian American Heritage Month is an appropriate time to recognize the enormous contributions that the Italian and Italian American people have made to this country and the world throughout our history," stated Anesh, noting that the month long observance is held to 'salute the Italian and Italian American community and to exhibit appreciation for their culture and their heritage that have enriched the lives of people around the world."
