Our Women Who Jazz series comes back with a much-awaited concert by pianist and composer Rita Marcotulli. Rita Marcotulli, an icon of Italian jazz, carved herself an impressive international career in a very short period of time. She played alongside jazz greats such as Chet Baker, Joe Lovano, Paul Bley, Palle Danielsson, Michel Portal, Enrico Rava, Pat Metheny and Nguyên Lê, and also collaborated with popular stars of the Italian music scene such as the late Pino Daniele and Gianmaria Testa.
For her debut in Washington DC, Rita will be joined on stage by guitarist Bebo Ferra. The leitmotiv of their collaboration is the idea of jazz as mood music, capable of creating new worlds and provoking unusual encounters, bringing out feelings that stem from their Mediterranean and European backgrounds and that take inspiration from classic jazz standards but also from film scores and pop music.
