From Italy to America Gallery Talk with Photographer Anthony Riccio

Mar 26, 2013 1906

In conjunction with the Greenwich Historical Society's exhibition From Italy to America, Anthony Riccio will discuss the inspiration for his black and white photographs on view in the complementary exhibit Photographs of Anthony Riccio: From Italy to American, originally organized by the Bellarmine Museum of Art at Fairfield University.

For the past four decades Anthony Riccio has documented in both word and image the experience of Italians and Italian-Americans in Southern Italy, Boston's North End and his native "Little Italy" in New Haven. Inspired by stories about life in Italy from his grandparents, Anthony studied in Florence for his master's degree in Renaissance Art History as a Florentine Fellow of Syracuse University. He traveled extensively through the south photographing daily life in remote villages.

He has published three books, Portrait of an Italian American Neighborhood: The North End of Boston and Cooking with Chef Silvio: Stories and Authentic Recipes of Campania. He is currently writing the unknown story of Italian-American women of Connecticut in a book entitled Farms, Factories and Families: Italian American Women of Connecticut.
