The Italian American Democratic Leadership Council (IADLC), the voice of Italian Americans in the Democratic Party, endorses Bill de Blasio for Mayor of New York City.

As the elected Public Advocate, he is already the highest ranking city official of Italian heritage in NYC.

Bill is very proud of his Italian heritage– his family is from east of Naples. Bill's maternal grandmothers and her sisters immigrated to the U.S. from Italy in the early 1900′s and started a dress shop in midtown. He has taken his family back to his grandfather's hometown in Italy – Sant'Agata dei Goti. De Blasio speaks Italian.

"The IADLC supports Bill not only because of his heritage but also because of his commitment to the needs of all New Yorkers which have been demonstrated so effectively through his work as the Public Advocate," said Bob Blancato, Chairman of the IADLC. "He will be a Mayor for all of New York."

Bill de Blasio has been New York City's Public Advocate since 2009. During the Clinton Administration, de Blasio was appointed Regional Director for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, where he served under former Secretary Andrew Cuomo. In 2000, he managed Hillary Rodham Clinton's successful campaign for U.S. Senate. The following year, de Blasio was elected to the New York City Council where he represented Brooklyn for eight years.
