There has been a tremendous fascination in the automotive world over the years with the concept of combining traditional Italian voluptuous styling with the simplicity and reliability of American V8 engines, the idea being that one could attain the Italian aura without incurring the high cost of mechanical repairs.
In the late 1950s, a project to build such an American-powered, Italian-bodied masterpiece was launched that included three friends from mid-Texas, a Chevrolet Division General Manager, and Sergio Scaglietti. Although it sounds like the beginning of a bad joke (Three Texans walk into Carrozzeria...) they managed to get three cars built before the whole thing went south.
