A longtime destination for cookies, cannolis and cabaret in Cathedral City has closed its doors. The last day of business at Frankie's Old World Italian Bakery and Supper Club, inside the Perez Plaza at 68-845 Perez Road, was Christmas Eve. Owner Frankie Mamone said he decided he would retire at the end of 2021 after suffering two strokes.
"After the strokes, my doctor said 'no more,'" he said. "She said 'you've got three months to live at the rate you are going, 20 hours a day.' So I said 'well, I don't want to die here.'" The idea for Frankie's originated with Mamone's grandmother, who he says taught him everything he knows.
