22 years in, Mancini Bakery’s 3rd generation owner still bakes up new ideas

The Mancini family has been baking its Italian twist bread in the West Park neighborhood of McKees Rocks for nearly 100 years. But the face of the operation for many Pittsburghers, says Nick Mancini Hartner, is its satellite operation in the Strip District.

Even on a quiet weekday, customers stream in one after the other in search of the bakery’s iconic loaves and signature pepperoni rolls, all made fresh daily using no preservatives or additives. It can be absolutely crazy on weekends, when the smell of freshly baked bread can’t help but lure the throng of shoppers on Penn Avenue inside for a loaf or two.
