One of the five entrepreneurs who failed to win a vacant year-round liquor license the city put up for grabs in May has gained a seasonal license to launch a new West End downtown restaurant. Simon Prudenzi and his Roman I LLC of Gloucester won the approval of the city's Licensing Board this week to sell alcoholic beverages at a proposed restaurant to be called Paisano's in the 65 Main St. space that had, for 10 years, housed the Dog Bar bar and restaurant.
The seasonal license would allow alcohol sales at Paisano's from April 1 through Jan. 15, said Meredith Fine, who heads the Licensing Board, on Thursday. While the state's Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission limits the city to 31 year-round all-alcohol licenses at a time, there is no firm limit on seasonal licenses, which can be issued "at the discretion of the board," board clerk Maureen Ripley said.
