On January 22, 1944, under the command of Generals Alexander, Clark and Lucas, the Allies gave rise to Operation Shingle: a landing operation, in front of the towns of Anzio and Nettuno, during the Italian campaign in World War II.

We remember the terrible moments that led to the liberation of our country from Fascism and Nazism, along with the unspeakable suffering endured by the people of the coastline who were among the first to witness the generous efforts of the Americans and the British to protect Italian freedom and democracy.

The Anzio landing remains an operation of fundamental importance in the strategic and military context of the Italian campaign by the Allies, a theater of war that witnessed the killing of thousands of young American boys and others, with enormous losses on the part of civilians.

It is worth remembering that Anzio is only 57 km from Rome, about an hour by car, well from the landing on January 22, 1944, the liberation of Rome took place on June 4, 1944, more than four months after the celebrated event, along with the sacrifice of thousands of men.
