2020 IABF "Achievement Award" Anthony Iapoce

Anthony Iapoce was born in Queens, NY on August 23, 1973 to Josephine and Anthony Iapoce. Anthony grew up in Astoria, Queens and went to school at St. Joseph’s Catholic School near his home in Astoria. He played both C.Y.O. baseball and basketball for St. Joe’s throughout his time there. Anthony then moved on to Monsignor McClancy high school in East Elmhurst, Queens.

There he played both baseball and basketball with McClancy and was part of helping to bring four city championships for both sports to the school. Anthony was inducted into McClancy’s first hall of fame class. After high school, Anthony chose to attend Lamar University in Beaumont, TX where he played baseball from 1992-1994. In 1993, Anthony was part of the team that won the Sunbelt Conference Championship.

Anthony was named All Sunbelt Conference Player in 1994. He was also inducted into Lamar University’s Baseball Hall of Fame.

In 1994, Anthony was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 33rd round. He played with the Marlins Organization and also in the Northern Independent League with the Gary Southshore Railcats where he was part of the Northern League Championship and the MVP of the Championship Series. He played eleven years in the minor leagues and was a part of three championships as a professional player.

After playing, he decided to make the move into coaching. He started his coaching career for the Marlins Organization in 2006. Anthony spent three seasons with the Marlins. In 2009, he took a job with the Toronto Blue Jays as the Hitting Coordinator until 2012. In 2012, he became the Special Assistant to the GM/Player Development, as well as the Hitting Coordinator for the Chicago Cubs from 2012-2015. In 2017, Anthony received a World Series ring from the Cubs organization for contributions to the Cubs minor leagues system. In 2016, Anthony made his next move to the Texas Rangers as their Major League Hitting Coach. While with the Rangers, he was a part of the 2016 AL West Division Championship with a league high of 95 wins.

Presently, Anthony is the Major League Hitting Coach for the Chicago Cubs starting in 2019. He has entered his 27th season of professional baseball between playing and coaching. Anthony continues to strive to make a positive impact among the players, fellow coaches, and staff throughout his career in baseball.

Anthony married his wife, Suzanne, in 2011 and they have three children, Lily, Abby, and Anthony. They currently live in Nassau County, NY.
