Andrea Bocelli’s “Music for Hope” concert on Easter Sunday from inside the empty Duomo in Milan was a record beaker, the most watched classical livestream ever for YouTube. Bocelli’s performance, which opened with “Panis Angelicus” as images of Milan’s empty streets and panoramas of Bergamo and Brescia, two Italian cities deeply afflicted by the Covid-19 pandemic, were shown on screen, and ended with “Amazing Grace” sung outside the cathedral, has attracted some 37 million viewers to date.
Bocelli will be part of what is sure to be another historic and widely watched event on Saturday, April 18, joining an all-star lineup for the One World: Together at Home special, curated by Lady Gaga in partnership with Global Citizen, a group known for its dedication to eradicating poverty worldwide.
