The American Society of Italian Heritage, north shore chapter, recently held its annual Rising Star Award Banquet at Mandina's Restaurant in Mandeville to honor an up-and-coming law enforcement officer.

Criteria for the award includes having a desire to advance one's education, displaying achievements in the field and a committment to community service and a positive attitude. More than 75 guests gathered to honor St. Tammany Parish Deputy Andrew Cook. Cook has been with the department for three years and is a Marine Corps veteran.
