The history of glass-making in Venice is almost as old as the city itself. The Island of Murano, just a 10 minute boat ride off the coast of Venice, is home to this world famous glass. Here for over 700 years, master craftsmen have honed their glass making skills, passing down this tradition from generation to generation. Toni McKeen will illustrate various types and uses of beautiful decorative glass, analyzing the magnificent splendor of Murano's palaces and Veneto-Byzantine style churches, some with mosaics and ornamental motifs designed in the 12th century.
