Stamford actor marks 125th ‘Mulberry Street’ performance

When Lou Ursone stepped onto the stage as Piccino Morello in "A Merry Mulberry Street Musical" on Dec. 1, he did it for the 125th time at Curtain Call's Dressing Room Theatre. Ursone, executive director of Curtain Call since 2000, has played the part off and on since 2002.


The show has had several incarnations since 1935, when it was originally staged on Broadway as "Moon Over Mulberry Street;" then became "Mulberry Street," written by Ursone's mentor, the late Albert Pia, the founding artistic director of Curtain Call; and, finally, "A Merry Mulberry Street Musical," penned by Ursone.
