110 years of Italian American heritage: San Francisco celebrates a remarkable community legacy

By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

A milestone in Italian American history will be celebrated in San Francisco on Sunday, November 8, 2026, as Italian Community Services (ICS) marks its 110th anniversary with an evening of music, culture, and community at historic Casa Fugazi, 678 Green Street, in North Beach.

Founded in 1916, ICS is among North America's oldest Italian nonprofit organizations. Originally established as the Italian Board of Relief, it has spent more than a century supporting Italian and Italian American families throughout the San Francisco Bay Area while preserving their cultural heritage.

The anniversary celebration begins at 6:00 p.m. with a reception featuring Italian antipasti, a hosted bar, and traditional accordion music.

At 7:00 p.m., the San Francisco Opera Adler Fellows will perform classic Italian arias. The program continues at 7:45 p.m. with an ICS presentation, live auction, and Fund-A-Need fundraiser. Italian desserts and coffee will conclude the evening beginning at 8:30 p.m.

Three ticket categories are available: $175 for Favored Seating, $275 for Preferred Seating, and $500 for Premium Seating. Cocktail or festive formal attire is requested.

Proceeds will support ICS programs, including educational grants, youth initiatives, senior activities, and assistance for community members in need.

Casa Fugazi, built in 1913 and entrusted to ICS in 1961, provides a particularly meaningful setting for this historic anniversary.

Corporate and family sponsorship opportunities are also available, and donations are welcome from supporters unable to attend.
