I always tell people that the best thing they can do in Scicli is get lost. In many ways, that’s exactly what happened to me. Four years ago, I came to Sicily for the holidays and ended up buying a house in this small baroque town in the southeast of the island.
Scicli is one of the eight towns of Val di Noto, the UNESCO-listed area rebuilt in the Sicilian Baroque style after the devastating earthquake of 1693. While most visitors head to Noto or Ragusa, I somehow ended up in Scicli, a town of around thirty thousand people watched over by the stunning Chiesa di San Matteo. Over time, it became my second home.
