Before the sun sets in the western sky, I want to make sure I do something on a true American hero, an Italian-American from right here in East Greenwich. A man I have the highest respect for, who is still going strong at 102 and attends 7:30 a.m. OLM Mass every Sunday, an example for all kids to follow, but particularly us, who grew up in the BTH* and are more than familiar with his story.
John Romano, La Salle Class of 1941, East Greenwich Class of forever, served his country in three wars: WW2, Korea and Vietnam. The 28-year veteran says, “I just did my job.” Born in New York City, John has always done more than his job. Early on, the family moved to Rhode Island, where his father had a farm, vineyard and winery in Davisville. At that time, the Romano Vineyards were the largest in New England.
