City officials said this week that they were recently contacted by an Italian resident about a story that sparked a wave of curiosity across Italy.
A handwritten letter was found on the shores of the island of Elba off the coast of Tuscany. It was dated July 1997, penned by someone named Rebecca and addressed to a friend identified only as MG, according to Italian news website TGCom24.
