A major digital preservation project is underway in Assisi to document and safeguard one of the most important religious and artistic landmarks in the world – the Basilica of St. Francis. The initiative, called “Preserving Assisi,” aims to create a complete digital record of the entire monumental complex using advanced technologies such as 3D scanning and ultra–high-resolution photography.
The work is scheduled to be completed in October 2026, the same year that marks the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis, who died in 1226.
