Belmar Goes Italian: San Gennaro Weekend Brings Food, Tradition, Cannoli and Costumed Dogs to Town

By: Matt Doherty

If there was ever a weekend to arrive in Belmar hungry, this is it. Belmar’s annual Feast of San Gennaro returns this week, bringing several days of food, faith, Italian-American tradition and community celebration — with everything from a spaghetti dinner and religious procession to a cannoli-eating contest and dogs dressed in costume.

The main event takes over Main Street from 8th to 10th avenues on Saturday, September 19, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.Admission is free, and the borough has set Sunday, September 20, as the rain date.
