Italy’s underwater economy has become a significant industrial sector, generating €3.5 billion through products and systems specifically connected to subsea activities. The figure appears in the first National Report on Italy’s Underwater Dimension, presented at the Italian Senate on July 16, 2026.
The study offers the first comprehensive assessment of an industry that includes defense, offshore energy, telecommunications, scientific research, environmental monitoring, and deep-sea mining.
