Culture is playing an increasingly important role in Italy’s economic recovery, urban renewal, and social development. The 22nd annual Federculture report shows that museums, theaters, cinemas, concerts, festivals, and archaeological sites are attracting growing audiences while helping cities and smaller communities create jobs, increase tourism, and restore neglected spaces.
The strongest sign of renewal comes from younger Italians. More than 77% of people between the ages of 15 and 24 went to the movies, while this generation also recorded particularly high participation in concerts and other forms of live entertainment. Across the entire population, movie attendance reached 48.2%, theater participation stood at 24.3%, and the share of Italians visiting museums and exhibitions rose from 33.6% to 35.8% in one year.
