Many people in Mishawaka celebrated Italian culture and Columbus Day. Dozens gathered at Central Park to hear from Italian organizations, and Mishawaka Mayor Wood talked about Italian heritage. Organizers also highlighted the accomplishments of local Italian Americans. This year's keynote speaker was Joe Donnelly, former senator and ambassador.
"Well, we're celebrating not just Columbus and his achievements and everything, but also celebrating Italian American culture. October is Italian American Heritage Month, so we want to celebrate our contributions like we did in the previous display at The History Museum," said Joe Agostino, Columbus Day celebration event chairman. A luncheon with Italian food followed the event.
