ElevenLabs enters music with Liza Minnelli and AI-driven creativity

By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

ElevenLabs has built its reputation as a leader in voice cloning technology, but the company is now expanding well beyond spoken audio. After reshaping how synthetic voices are created and used, the startup is moving decisively into music, bringing artificial intelligence into the creative process with the involvement of iconic performers, such as Liza Minnelli, who appears on the album with an unexpected electronic dance music track titled Kids Wait Till You Hear This.

At 79 years old, the singer, actress, and performer best known for New York, New York has embraced the experiment as a new form of expression rather than a replacement for human creativity.

The company announced the release of The Eleven Album, a collaborative project developed with artists who chose to use ElevenLabs’ AI tools not only as a technical resource but as a kind of virtual muse and digital producer. Central to the project is Eleven Music, the company’s music-focused AI model launched in December.

According to ElevenLabs, the platform allows users to generate fully original, royalty-free music suitable for commercial use, make granular edits to lyrics, timing, and instrumentation, and download up to six professional-quality tracks for advanced mixing and arrangement. In practical terms, many of the functions of a traditional recording studio are compressed into a single AI-driven system.

While the growing role of artificial intelligence in music continues to spark debate among artists and listeners alike, ElevenLabs has secured the participation of performers whose careers have shaped modern music.

Liza Minnelli’s involvement also carries an Italian American dimension. She is the daughter of director Vincente Minnelli, whose family roots trace back to Italy, making her part of a long tradition of Italian heritage in American entertainment. That background adds cultural depth to her participation in a project that blends legacy voices with emerging technology.
