European Swimming Championships: Curtis sets world record in 50-meter backstroke

Sara Curtis broke the world record by 23 hundredths of a second, in the 50-meter backstroke semifinal, swimming 26.63 at the European Championships in Paris, thus advancing to the final with the fastest time.

Curtis, 19, who was born in the Piedmontese town of Savigliano to an Italian father and a Nigerian mother, said it was crazy, and the dream of a lifetime. "I don't know what to say, I'm lost for words, it's crazy, it's the dream of my entire life. "I came here and I felt good.
