Foundation Donates Historic Bicentennial scroll

The Silvio Laccetti Foundation donated an historic 50 year old scroll to the Jersey City Public Library as a gift to celebrate America 250. Written in 1976 by Dr. Laccetti, the artifact is a Declaration of the Bicentennial Congress of Hudson County New Jersey.

The large document is on parchment paper in the calligraphy of the 18th century. Sealed in its case, the document had not been seen in 50 years.

The Declaration refers to the turbulent times of the early 1970's, e.g., the end of the civil rights protests, the war in Viet Nam, economic uncertainties, but maintains that America's institutions are strong enough to survive crises.

Two critical elements for the future are listed as an informed and participating citizenry and a free, local press.  What was a good formula for success 50 years a go is just as valid today.
