From Naples to the slopes: a 16-year-old rewriting Italian skiing at the Olympic Games

By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

At just 16 years old, Giada D’Antonio is already doing something no one from her city has ever done before: earning a place among Italy’s elite alpine skiers. Even more remarkably, she comes from Naples – a city famous for the sea, football, and volcanoes, not snow-covered slopes.

Born and raised in southern Italy, D’Antonio’s rise challenges every traditional assumption about where winter sports champions are supposed to come from. Naples sits hundreds of miles from the Alpine resorts that dominate Italian skiing culture, yet that distance never stopped her. Instead, it shaped her determination.
