From sea waste to green wealth: Veneto’s blue economy revolution

By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

What was once considered little more than marine waste is becoming the foundation of a new economic sector in northeastern Italy. Across the Veneto region, shells, fish-processing residues, and discarded fishing materials are being transformed into valuable resources, creating business opportunities while helping protect fragile coastal ecosystems.

The emerging model is known as the blue circular economy, and it is rapidly moving from theory to real-world application. The concept is simple but powerful: instead of treating marine byproducts and ocean waste as disposal problems, they are reintroduced into productive cycles, generating environmental and economic value at the same time.
