Gaps remain across regions while Italy’s renewable transition advances

By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

Italy is making measurable progress in its shift toward renewable energy, but the pace of the transition still varies significantly across sectors and regions. In 2025, renewable sources covered about 41% of national electricity demand, confirming the country’s steady movement toward cleaner energy, even if growth remains uneven.

Electricity consumption remained broadly stable at around 311 TWh, while domestic production reached roughly 268 TWh, up +2% compared with the previous year. Renewables continue to play a central role, driven largely by solar expansion, which recorded one of the strongest increases among all energy sources.
